For over 80 years, Turnstone has been dedicated to providing meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities, including seniors aging at home. Now, thanks to a new partnership with Audiences Unlimited (AUI), those opportunities include the joy of live music.
Turnstone first welcomed an AUI performance for its senior clients in December 2023, and the response was overwhelming. “Our clients, especially those in our memory care program, light up when they hear familiar songs,” said Molly Slater, Director of Adult Day Services and Memory Care Programs at Turnstone. “At times for these clients, it is hard to remember what they experienced yesterday, but songs from previous seasons of their lives flow out of them. Music brings familiarity and comfort to so many of us.”
Recognizing the impact, two anonymous donors made it possible for Turnstone to host multiple AUI performances each month in 2024, which are now continuing into 2025. These performances create a unique space for seniors to connect, reminisce, and engage—an essential need for those who may otherwise experience isolation.
“Beyond safety and healthcare, the greatest need for seniors aging at home is community,” Slater emphasized. “This partnership with AUI addresses that need by providing a common ground for connection. Whether it’s over a shared love of Stevie Wonder or the opportunity to sing along with a classic such as Sweet Caroline, music brings people together.”
Thanks to AUI’s commitment to reach seniors outside of traditional long-term care settings, Turnstone clients now have access to the kind of live musical experiences that are often out of reach. “I’m really grateful for AUI,” she said. “I’m so thankful that they’re reaching out to spaces such as ours. It’s a true blessing to our community.”
