The Narrative Theatre Program

By News and Updates

Two years ago, Audiences Unlimited (AUI) and L.I.F.E. Adult Day Academy (L.A.D.A.) teamed up to bring music and movement to L.A.D.A.’s students. We called it Music Enrichment. Thanks to The James Foundation, we’re expanding it to include more of the arts with a new name: My Expressions.

We’re excited to announce the brand new Narrative Theatre Program as the expansion of My Expressions. AUI, L.A.D.A., and theatre director Shelby Lewis have created a one-of-a-kind opportunity for adults with disabilities to participate in narrative play production. Students will rehearse adaptations of popular scripts at the academy to perform for the public. The program is designed to give them confidence and experience with public speaking. Our intent is to empower students and create common ground among people of all abilities. Both students and audience members will learn something new from this enriching experience!

Students are already rehearsing for A Christmas Carol. They have two performances scheduled this December.

Agen Family Trio Concert ft. Addison Agen

By News and Updates, Special Event

Audiences Unlimited, Inc. (AUI) is pleased to announce the Agen Family Trio Concert, featuring Addison Agen. This benefit concert will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 6PM at the Arts United Center. The performance will celebrate music throughout the decades and highlight the inspiring service Addison Agen and her family provided to the community through Audiences Unlimited, a local nonprofit.

Before Addison Agen auditioned for The Voice, the young star’s early musical journey included singing for community members whose health was declining. Her mother, Tinea Agen, a certified music therapist, regularly performed with AUI and often brought her children along.  They designed performances to bring joy and spark memories for people whose health limited their ability to access Fort Wayne’s thriving arts scene.

“So much of Addison’s story is based from my work at Audiences Unlimited,” Tinea Agen wrote. “There were days when Addison would go to two to four nursing homes a day with me!”

“We’re thrilled to have been an early part of Addison’s musical journey and are honored that the family wants to continue to give back to us in this way,” Anna Ross, executive director of AUI, said.

Tickets go on sale May 4 at 12 P.M. Buy them at artstix.org or by calling the Arts United box office at (260) 422-4226. Limited VIP meet-and-greet tickets cost $80. General admission tickets are $28-60.

CELEBRATING 45 YEARS WITH NEW PROGRAM

By News and Updates

Since 1972, Audiences Unlimited, Inc. (AUI) has served Northeast Indiana by presenting live music in area nursing homes. Now, for their 45th anniversary, the nonprofit organization is proud to announce the launch of “ME at L.A.D.A.”, a music enrichment program created in partnership with L.I.F.E. Adult Day Academy (L.A.D.A.) to serve the academy’s clients: adults in the Fort Wayne community with physical and developmental disabilities.
From the start, AUI has operated with a vision to make arts accessible. The founder’s vision to offer nursing home residents musical experiences has grown into nearly 3,000 annual arts performances that bring joy and enhance quality of life—all at a cost that care facilities can afford.
“While current programming will continue, we are thrilled to launch a new program reaching individuals who otherwise may not experience the arts,” says Anna Ross, Executive Director of AUI.
AUI expanded its mission statement four years ago to serve people of all ages who have limited access to the arts. The pilot program developed with L.A.D.A. is the first expression of the new mission, reaching an audience that faces barriers to arts experiences for reasons other than aging. With guidance from Heather Palmer, music therapist and owner of It Is Music Time LCC., the organization has designed the program to offer L.A.D.A.’s clients access to live professional performances that are tailored to their needs and musical preferences.
The program will feature three interactive performances over 18 weeks, a six-week choral class leading up to a performance and a social dance for clients and their loved ones. The music is expected to promote social, physical and emotional well-being.
“We are overjoyed and very thankful for what the Music Enrichment program will mean here at LADA. Music encourages our students to achieve their personal goals and maximizes their success. The positive effects it has on all student behavior by turning around anxiety and depression, specifically uplifting students’ spirits, is simply amazing,” says Lloyd Jones, CEO and Executive Director of L.I.F.E. Adult Day Academy.
The new program is made possible by a grant from the AWS Foundation.
Primarily funded by foundations and community donors, AUI currently serves as a liaison between 145 professional artists and 50 long-term care facilities in Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties. Last year, AUI reached 16,740 individuals.
